Martha Madison spent years playing the role of Belle Black on 'Days of Our Lives' a role that made her a household name tod...
Firstly, I must acknowledge how much of a talented actress you are and the fact that you are greatly missed on Days of Our Lives - how has been since your recent exit from the show?
Martha: Thank you! I miss being there. Things are ok here. Life has been throwing me a lot of lessons in patience, resilience and focus lately. It's been a very introspective year for sure, but I'm feeling strong. Thanks for asking.
What would it take to get you back as Belle Black on the show full time?
Martha: That's a question better directed at the execs over there. I really don't know their process for making those kinds of decisions, but I'm pretty sure it's important to hear from the fans. Tweets, Instagrams, and good old fashion calls and letters to the studio probably help.
Have you been keeping up with the stories on the show? There's a new head writer and it looks like a lot of things are going to change, a lot of good things are going to happen - how do you feel about that?
Martha: I haven't watched the show since I left last year, but I was a long time fan of General Hospital while Ron Carlivati was their Head Writer. I love his style. You can tell he has fun when he's writing, and he tends to honor what the fans are asking for. He seems like the kind of writer that can balance the desires of the audience with his own unique ideas. I think it's a great "get" for the show. Also, Sheri and Ryan are fantastic and have an obvious passion for the show. I'll have to tune back in when their stuff starts airing.
Alison Sweeney is back as Sami, your sister and Chandler Massey is back as Will Horton, your nephew - any thoughts?
Martha: When I heard Chandler was returning as Will, I was thrilled. He is such a talented actor, and his character is so important to the fabric of the show. Having Ali back is wonderful too. It feels like exactly the kind of splash that Days needs to make right now. I don't know what the story will be obviously, but I think adding that kind of familiarity back to the canvas is necessary and will probably be very well-received.
Now, outside of daytime TV you've been quite successful. You are on the new series "Ladies of the Lake" which premiered in May of this year and you play Vivian Montgomery - tell us more about your character.
Martha: Yes, I had a blast playing Vivian. The show is based on Ken Corday's novel by the same name (available on Amazon). He wrote Vivian as a very smart, capable, and strong woman and I think Michael Caruso adapted that very well. Vivian is fiercely loyal to her friends and loves her family. However, you know what they say about a woman scorned? hahaha! Anyway, you can see all four episodes on Amazon Video.
You've reunited with a number of your 'Days' co-stars particularly Kyle Lowder [ex-Brady Black] how was that experience for you?
Martha: I love Kyle. I don't remember if we ever worked together on Days or if we just crossed paths. However, I've known him a long time and it was great to get to work with him on LOTL. He's very cool and easy to work with.
And, what does the future look like for this show? Will there be upcoming additional seasons?
Martha: I'm not sure. I know the fan response has been wonderful and it's been viewed a gazillion times on Amazon. I'm sure those factors will determine whether Michael will write more episodes. So, if you like it, leave a review, tweet, tell a friend...
You've also played Belle on Great News, can you share more about that?
Martha: Oh that was so fun! It was one of those "out of the blue" kinds of things. The creator of "Great News," Tracey Wigfield, wrote us into that episode as kind of a wink to her mom who is a Days of Our Lives fan. When we shot that episode, we got to meet her and thank her in person!
As an aside, it's always fun to get to work in different settings and with different types of material. It's common for soap actors to get pigeon-holed into our genre, but the truth is that all of the soap actors I've worked with have amazing senses of humor. I mean, you have to, right? lol. So, comedy is a natural fit for a lot of us. Such fun!
You got a new movie coming out soon "To The Beat!" and you play Clare. You also play alongside a number of 'Days' stars including Jillian Clare and Eric Martsolf - what can fans expect in this upcoming movie?
Martha: To The Beat is another comedy project we did. The story focuses on a tween dance competition. Eric and I play parents to two of the young leads - Jayden Bartels and Avery Hewitt. We are completely off of our rockers! It's pretty hilarious! And these kids...oh my gosh! They are so incredibly talented. I'm hoping it will be released sometime later this summer or early fall. You can check out the teaser here...
Outside of acting what can you share about your personal relationships, business adventures and more?
Martha: I'm just loving being Mom to Charley these days. She's three and a half going on sixteen! She's a very spirited little lady with a very strong mind of her own. So, she takes up most of my focus. Aside from that, my husband AJ and I still own and operate our restaurant inventory software/app,ChefSheet.com. It's been growing very rapidly, so that is keeping us very busy.
So, fans would you love to see Belle back on the show full time? Are you anticipating her new movie? Do you want to see more of Ladies of the Lake?
